Made in New Mexico

A couple weeks ago I received a code for Quarry, an Xbox live title developed here in New Mexico. From what I understand, it's part of the NM Game Jam, an event where local developers square off in teams to create a game in less than 48 hours. If you want an idea what the game is about, check out the video above.

The basic idea is that two robots fight to collect the pieces of ore on screen, while laying out their own "sabotaged" ore that deducts ore from the other robot. Each match (of which there are three) is over very quickly, but there definitely is a sense of urgency to the game that kept me interested during the first couple play sessions. While I would have liked to see some better ending transitions, it was a healthy reminder that there remains untapped potential here in New Mexico for game developers.

For more of our impressions, check out May's recent podcast, as well as all the other examples of professional internet journalism we strive so hard to provide.

:P

And on a more personal note, I want to thank Jon Whetzel for letting us know about this game, I can't wait to see what comes out in July!

Something on PBS actually worth watching

Wow, I can't believe I skipped a whole month, but hey! I've been busy!
Anyway, lets try and change that hm? Here's some news for you.

For those of you who enjoyed our past two game-music-only podcasts, (and I know your out there) why not check out Video Games Live? It's a full orchestra playing some of gaming's most memorable songs, such as Halo and Zelda. For those of you who haven't been able to see a live show, a concert is set to debut on PBS on Juyly 31st, so check to see if it's coming to your area.

This is the perfect chance to stick it to those relatives of yours who complain that you never listen to enough classical music.

Or maybe that's just me....
